More Challenges

I've been playing again. :)
I decided since I did last week's Perfect
Sentiments challenge on the last day,
that I would do this week's challenge
on the first day.

is distressed thank yous.

Distressed is not in my comfort
zone.  But I dug in.
This is my card I am submitting
for the challenge.

The card base is crumb cake.
I used 2 DP patterns to form
a card front. The one on the left
had the distressing tool taken to its
edges. I used the early espresso
ink pad to add some color
to the distressed edges (with a sponge)
as well as the design area.
I added early espresso ink to flowers from
Accents & Elements, and added them
to the DP on the right,
with a pearl in the center of each.
The sentiment is from SU's Because I
Care stamp set, and is stamped in
early espresso ink onto very vanilla
cardstock. I applied early espresso
ink to it with a sponge, and used
the distressing tool on the edges, and
mounted it onto early espresso cardstock.
I used linen thread in a button from
Button Bouquet to add to the
sentiment. Linen thread also
runs across the left section of DP.

This was actually my 2nd attempt
at this challenge. Like I said, the distressed
look isn't in my comfort zone. So I eased
into it. LOL
Here was my first card.
As you can see, I stuck with the basic
idea that I came up with.

The recipe for this card was basically
the same as the final creation,
minus the early espresso ink added directly
to the DP and the flowers, and also
the extra linen thread across the DP.

This is really my normal limit to "distressing."

CC367

This week's color challenge is chocolate
chip, baja breeze, and river rock.

Here is my creation.

The card base is chocolate chip.
I used SU's Crosshatch BG stamp
in chocolate chip ink onto
river rock textured cardstock.
The main image is from SU's
Friendship Blooms stamp set and is
in chocolate chip ink on river rock
cardstock. I used a designer
brad in the center of the flower, and
mounted the top layer onto
baja breeze. The accent flower is
also out of baja breeze. All the
faux stitching is done with the chocolate
chip marker.
Baja breeze wide stitched ribbon
finished off my creation.

TLC 369 ~Crop it!~

A rainy and dreary Monday is perfect for hiding
in my Purple Palace and creating! :)
So that is exactly what I did. I jumped in on some challenges,
as you have started to see.
The funny thing is that I went down there numerous times with
the thought of this week's Try a New Technique Challenge on SCS.
The challenge is Crop it! Take any image and crop it to add to
your card or scrapbook page. Well, I would pull a set out that I
thought had a good image to crop. But then I would get
side-tracked and end up with a completely different card ...
...that didn't include the challenge guidelines. LOL

Last night, I finally got one that I thought would "fit."
But after I let it sit overnight, when I looked at it this morning,
I wasn't sure if cutting my image out, then in half to adhere in
two different places would actually qualify as "cropped."
But I still like the card I did. :)

Rusty Lion

The card base is really rust. The top layer
is K & Co DP, layered onto
crushed curry.
I stamped the Wild about you
sentiment from SU's Wild About
You stamp set onto the DP
with really rust ink.
The lion image is from the same
stamp set. I inked it using crushed
curry and really rust markers,
stamped it on naturals ivory cardstock,
cut it out, sliced in two pieces,
then adhered them on either side of
the DP layer. I also wrapped linen
thread around the bottom of the
DP layer and knotted it in the front.
The Happy birthday sentiment is from SU's
Alphabet Soup stamp set. It is stamped
in really rust and crushed curry ink
on naturals ivory. The edges were distressed
using SU's distressing tool, then layered
only really rust.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Well, then I had to attempt the challenge yet again.
LOL
But by golly, I think I got it!
heehee

Cropped Spring Day

The card base is pink pirouette, with a bermuda
bay layer embossed with the Elegant Bouquet
SU Sizzex folder.  The image
~cropped image portions~
(shall I say?! LOL)
are from SU's A Kind Word stamp set.
I stamped them in memento tuxedo black ink
on whisper white.
I punched out 3 different sections (two are same image)
with SU's square punch, and colored them in
with SU markers.
I layered them onto scallop square
punches of crushed curry, and added a tab
of crushed curry dotted ribbon behind each.
The sentiment from the same stamp set is stamped
in bermuda bay onto whisper white,
the edges sponged with crushed curry ink,
and layered on a scallop oval of pink pirouette.

Kind of bold colors, but they make
me think "Spring!"

PSC 23: Easter Color Story

I did a "last day to do this one" card for the
Perfect Sentiments challenge from last Wednesday.
LOL   You can see the details here.
I really had fun with this one. My first idea for this came out a
little too bold for my liking for this card. So I decided
to use other ways of using the colors more subtly.
Still bold, but in a better way I think.

A Glittery Good Egg

I used regal rose, rich razzleberry, and
baha breeze to simulate the challenge colors.

The card base is barely banana. I applied
versamark across the bottom of my card,
covered it with heat and stick powder,
heated it, then added SU glitter that
looks like rich razzleberry to me.

I added a strip of wide baha breeze
stitched ribbon above the glitter.
The top left block is shimmer paper,
with stamps from the SU A Good Egg
stamp set stamped in regal rose,
rich razzleberry, and baja breeze inks.
The top right block is regal rose
with cardstock vellum on top of it.

I stamped the hatching chicklet image from
the same stamp set on white cardstock
with memento tuxedo black ink.
I colored the egg portion with
the versamarker,
then did the heat and stick powder,
this time adding dazzling diamonds glitter.
I colored the chicklet portion
with watercolorwonder crayons,
then used a blender pen.
I cut the image out and adhered it on top.

I stamped both sentiments, also from SU's
A Good Egg stamp set in rich razzleberry,
one directly on the cardstock vellum,
and the other on barely banana.
This sentiment was then punched out with
SU's word window punch.
A blingy pearl and daffodil delight
ribbon finished it off.

Teapot Tuesday Challenge

I have missed a few tea parties, as I've been allowing myself
to take advantage of the spring cleaning mojo while
it is here. LOL But I jumped back in this week, and so glad I did.
This week's teapot cards are to bring a birthday celebration to
Rita. You can read her story here.

The challenge was to incorporate butterflies and birthdays.
Here is my creation.

Butterfly Birthday

The card base is perfect plum.
The white layer has its edges sponged
with marina mist ink. Both butterflies and
the curved sentiment are from SU's
Garden Whimsy stamp set.
I inked both butterflies using the
Rock & Roll technique. I first inked
the entire image with bashful blue ink,
then I rolled the outer edges in marina
mist ink, then the outermost edges
in perfect plum ink.
I wanted the same color effect for the
curved sentiment, so I inked it with
marina mist ink, then used the perfect plum
marker on the edges.
The birthday sentiment is from
SU's Hugs & Wishes stamp set,
stamped in perect plum and marina
mist ink. I used SU and EK Success
punches with whisper white and marina mist
cardstock for the sentiment, sponging the
white layer with perfect plum ink.
The final touch for this card is
prima flowers with a purple
flower brad in the center.
I hope Rita likes it as well as I do. :)

Finally! An update!

I was made aware yesterday by my cousin, Tanya, that my blog has not been updated for 5 weeks.
Oops! So, in honor of my stalking cousin LOL, here is some new stuff. :)
And for the record, I LIKE BLOG STALKERS ;)

I went downstairs to create a couple baby cards today.
My husband's sister became a 1st time grandma last night
when her oldest step-daughter had a baby boy.

Baby Boy Giraffe

The card base is marina mist, with a whisper white
layer embossed with the swiss dot CB folder.
I stamped the giraffe image from SU's
Wild About You stamp set in marina mist
and drew a ribbon around his neck.
I mounted that on marina mist, and trimmed
the sides with an SU border punch.
I stamped the sentiment from SU's
Whimsical Words stamp set in marina
mist, punched it out with SU's large oval
punch, then layered on marina mist punched
out with SU's scallop oval punch.
The card is finished off with SU's blue
gingham ribbon.

Wasabi Wild About You Baby

The card base is wild wasabi with a whisper
white layer. I stamped the images from SU's
Wild About You stamp set in marina mist,
daffodil delight, pumpkin pie, and
wild wasabi inks and/or markers.
The sentiment from Su's Baby Talk stamp
set is stamped in wild wasabi.
It is finished off with SU's wild wasabi
stitched ribbon.

-----------------------------------------------------

Then I decided to work on something
for one of the Splitcoast challenges.
Well, I got side-tracked.
But I did get two more cards made. LOL

Because I care

This card base is certainly celery with a whisper
white strip across the entire width, stamped
with lavender flowers from SU's Because
I Care stamp set. Certainly celery and
elegant eggplant ribbons run across
the strip. The main image is from the same
stamp set. I inked the image with lavender
lace, elegant eggplant, certainly celery,
and always artichoke markers.
The main image has lavender lace ink
sponged around the edges and is mounted
on elegant eggplant.
The sentiment from the same stamp set is
stamped in elegant eggplant.

Treat Yourself

This card base is pacific point, with the front
embossed with the swiss dot CB folder.
The whisper white layer was cut out with
 the Top Note sizzix die.
I stamped the bubble gum machine image
from SU's Treat Yourself stamp set
in memento tuxedo black ink.
I colored it with the poppy parade marker
and the zig painty for silver.
The gumballs from the same stamp
set were stamped in pacific point, melon
mambo, rich razzleberry, wild wasabi,
daffodil delight, and pumpkin pie inks.
I inked the sentiment from the same stamp
set with the poppy parade marker so that I
could separate the 2 lines.
There is a crushed curry dotted
ribbon across the middle behind
the top note layer.
